The Parabolic series has developed from the result of a period of research and experimentation. Exploring  methods of dynamic casting, Tom Palmer developed completely new casting processes in which the mould was not a fixed constant in the production of a piece, but was encouraged to change and therefore alter each piece. This used a super flexible membrane that was then deformed using super strong rare-earth magnets. This naturally created a flawless glossy parabolic black void, that contrasts with the raw grey exterior of the cast.

Enquiries for custom production led Tom to explore other routes to production and the forms can now be produced to a vast scale with one or more voids and finished in any colour. The inner parabolic involves precision finishing and has required the expertise found in Formula 1 to develop.

These tables are an example of the artist’s ingenuity and skill and the blend of craftsmanship and cutting edge technology that defines much of his work.

Materials & Finishes

The design concept can be reconfigured to different scales suitable for coffee, dining, centre and console tables. These tables can be finished in custom colour and additional bespoke options include a patinated metal wrap frame and an alternative top can be fitted according to intended use.

The plinth studies are made of laminated jesmonite.
