Anna Gravelle
Anna Gravelle creates beguiling wall mounted textiles to commission. Her artworks create an unexpected visual and tactile experience, informed by texture and the process of making that together drive the development of her designs.
Her work is designed in response to her fascination with texture and pattern, in landscapes in particular, and interpreting them into embroidered textiles. Inspiration may be drawn from a flock of birds, an aerial view of wetlands and reed beds, or movement across the surface of water and translated in mark making. Anna can create bespoke works in response to a specific location or special place.
Anna employs a number of different processes in her work but is perhaps best known for her use of tufting. She artfully works the technique with silky threads on the finest wool like exquisite embroidery. The results are intriguing artworks with a tactile and three-dimensional character.
