Zoe Wilson is an award winning stone-carver who specialises in geometric and mathematical patterns. She relishes the meticulous precision required in the execution of carving her timeless and technically challenging designs.

The beauty of her raw material emerges through the crisp edges and smooth curves created using only a traditional mallet and chisel. The marks of her skilled hands are evident in the finished carving, introducing a depth soul and character to the work that could never be achieved by machine.

Historically stone carving traditionally relied on light and shadow to bring the work to life. Zoe expertise in the field is evident in her carvings, different areas of which become highlighted through the shifting light of the day.

The unique original of each design is offered for sale, and the opportunity is offered to order a precise jesmonite cast which can be customised and accented in gold or colour.

Born in Shrewsbury, England, Zoe Wilson completed a degree in fine art painting at Birmingham City University, before discovering a love of working with stone.

Understanding the importance of a solid foundation she served a three-year apprenticeship as a traditional stonemason, followed by a second apprenticeship in letter carving, from renowned master carver, John Neilson.

With an established passion for working with stone Zoë then studied for three years at City and Guilds of London Art School, supported by a scholarship from the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust. Zoë graduated in 2016 with a first-class diploma in historic stone carving.

Emigrating to Southeast Asia with her husband, Zoë was hugely influenced by her time living in Borneo. She developed a fascination with geometry through both the sacred geometry found naturally in the rainforest around her and Islamic art.

Returning to the UK, Covid fueled the interest in geometric pattern as the precision required for creating the drawings gave order and meaning to the chaos. To find her carvings successful Zoë continually strives for perfection in her work. This continued technical challenge has raised her ability to new levels.

Zoe has exhibited at the highest level as a view of her CV will testify. Her achievements include a Scholarship from QEST in 2014 (the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust), becoming a Yeoman Mason in 2017 (The Worshipful Company of Masons, London), and a Brand Ambassador for John Smedley Knitwear, and for Sipsmith Gin.
