This screen was inspired by the traditional Japanese charred wood finish Shou – Sugi – Ban. The giant inset moon has a burnt gesso finish which is a unique and unpredictable process and finish, in which a synthetic gesso is burnt and carved back, creating a molten surface riven with cracks and craters.
