Airborne captures blue morpho butterflies in mid flight swirling in ascension in a frenetic busy cluster. The species is a migratory butterfly which naturally cluster on their long journeys when resting. This is a small study of around 43 blue morpho butterflies. The butterflies are displayed inside a bell jar. Each butterfly is double-sided and individually hand-cut, with black wire antennae. They are pierced and suspended on 1mm brass rods.
Each butterfly is fabricated in robust paper-based materials with a metallic reflective quality, and a further five processes including printing, die cutting, scoring, folding into a three dimensional form, finishing and pinning to the back board. This work represents days of precision, and the result is truly extraordinary and of exceptional quality.
